Three-time Super Bowl champion Michael Irvin has now weighed in on who he thinks are the best team in the NFL currently.
The San Francisco 49ers, the Minnesota Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs all enjoyed impressive unbeaten runs at the start of 2026/27 but they have all now tasted defeat at least once.
The Buffalo Bills (6-1) are also in good form right now but Irvin instead decided to name the Chicago Bears as the best team.
Speaking on Green Light with Chris Long, the ex-Dallas Cowboys player admitted he thought the Los Angeles Rams would run away with things before saying the Bears ‘look like the best team in the National Football League right now’.
He said: “And here’s the scary part. Honestly, even like for the Cowboys, you can put up 30 points a game, you can win a lot of games. The last few teams that won Super Bowls put up 30 points a game. So now, even though you’re playing poorly, if you get in that playoffs and you hit a streak and get through, you know, it’s all so everywhere this year, guys.
“We thought, I thought the Rams would be running away with things and they’re not. I didn’t expect Chicago to be exactly where they are. They look like the best team in the National Football League right now.
“And Caleb Williams, you know who I was saying last night when I’m watching him, I was like, he, oh my, he looks just like an early Houston Deshaun Watson.”
The 6-2 Bears are second in the NFC North behind the 6-1 Vikings going into Week 9.
A similar run in the remainder of the campaign should see them better their regular-season record from 2025, which was 11-6.
