Maurice Jones-Drew was hands off in his son's recruitment to UCLA

A second Jones-Drew running back is headed to the UCLA Bruins. Two decades after Maurice Jones-Drew was named an All-American with the school, his son Duece Jones-Drew is here to continue the legacy.

Deuce Jones-Drew committed to UCLA back in May of this year but the three-star back for the Class of 2027 didn’t end up committing to the Bruins because of his old man. Even though  Maurice Jones-Drew was a star in Westwood, the former All-Pro didn’t want to force his son to follow the same path.

The three-time Pro Bowler spoke with Connor Dullinger of the Los Angeles Times, expressing how he took the back seat in his son’s recruiting process.

“I wanted to push him away from UCLA as much as possible because I wanted him to go there because he wanted to go there,” Maurice Jones-Drew told the Los Angeles Times. “I wasn’t really involved in the recruitment as much because I wanted him to enjoy and go through this process like I did. I wanted him to go to a school that he wanted to go to because it’s his football career. It’s his life. It’s going to be his journey.”

Deuce Jones-Drew will wrap up his high school football career this year at De La Salle High School in Concord, California before heading south to Los Angeles and the Bruins. His father set a high standard, racking up over 3,300 yards from scrimmage over three seasons with the Bruins but the legacy will continue with Duece Jones-Drew coming to UCLA.
