Matt LaFleur Fears Season-Ending Injury for Packers Star After Cart Ride Off Field

The Green Bay Packers have managed to secure a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a narrow score of 14-17. It is the franchise’s second win of the season, with their current record standing at two win and two losses.

The win comes as a relief for Packers fans, after struggling in the previous games. But it looks like they will be disappointed with a player’s potential absence for the rest of the game.

Matt LaFleur addresses Packers star’s injury

Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper suffered a significant Achilles tendon injury during the third quarter of the Buccaneers’ game at Raymond James Stadium. The injury occurred on a non-contact play with 8:43 remaining as Cooper pursued Buccaneers quarterback Jalon Daniels. He immediately grabbed his left ankle and calf area, was evaluated on the field, and was then carted to the locker room.

The Packers ruled him out for the remainder of the contest. Head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the injury in his postgame press conference. He said, “He’s a tough one to lose. My heart hurts for him.” He then added that the injury situation is “not good” and that he will “suspect that” when asked if it was a season-ending issue.

An MRI performed the following day confirmed the Achilles tear, which means that Cooper will now be sidelined for the rest of the year. However, further tests and evaluations will reveal the true extent of his recovery timeline. The injury adds to earlier season-ending losses for the Packers, including wide receiver Jayden Reed (neck) and offensive tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee).

Cooper had established himself as a key contributor in his third NFL season with his speed and versatility in the Packers’ linebacker group. In his absence, the team is expected to rely more heavily on Isaiah McDuffie and Ty’Ron Hopper alongside Zaire Franklin. Aside from the injury situation, LaFleur also talked about another issue.

Matt LaFleur addresses Packers performance

After the win, LaFleur expressed his displeasure at the team’s performance against the Buccaneers. He said, “We’re never going to be satisfied with scoring 17 points in the game.”

He added, “That’s just not to our standard, and we’ve got to find ways, when we have opportunities in the red area, to convert. Too many penalties. Turnovers. Ball carriers have got to hold onto the ball. We put the ball on the ground way too much. And this stuff’s got to get fixed, and it’s got to get fixed now.”

The Packers will now focus on their next game against the Chicago Bears, their eternal rivals.
