MARYSVILLE — As the world’s top players compete at the FIFA World Cup, local soccer stars in St. Clair County are preparing to showcase their own skills.

Marysville High School will host the Class of 2026 Blue Water All-Star Game at Walt Braun Viking Stadium on Thursday, July 9.

The “game” will consist of two exhibitions, starting with a girls match at 5 p.m. That’ll be followed by a boys friendly at 7 p.m.

“This has been an idea that I’ve had since I started coaching,” said Yale boys soccer coach Pat Egan, who is coordinating the event with Marysville coach Scott Parker. “Mainly, it’s just to give the kids a nice send off as they’re graduating here.”

All the logistics — rosters, officials, jerseys, press box essentials — are set. The all-star game even has its own logo, which was designed by TP Logos in Marysville.

“We’re going to treat it like a full-blown game the best that we can,” Parker said. “I’m really anxious to see how the game goes on Thursday, seeing (the players) have fun and what kind of crowd we can get.”

Admission is $5 per person. There is no charge for senior citizens or children in second grade and under.

While high school all-star games for basketball and baseball have a decades-long tradition in the Blue Water Area, there is no record of such an event ever being held for soccer.

“We’re just hoping to get a decent crowd to support soccer in the Blue Water Area and have some fun with it,” Parker said. “That’s the goal.”

“The main thing is just bringing people together,” Egan said. “For the youth in the area, we’re hoping that they go to the game — or see pictures of the game — and maybe dream to be on that field one day.”
