Marvin Harrison Jr. Is Ready to Break Out for the Cardinals

Over the past two seasons, Marvin Harrison Jr. has been a name that plenty of NFL fans have paid attention to. Naturally so, as the Arizona Cardinals selected him fourth overall in 2024. It is now the dawn of the 2026 season, and Harrison Jr. still hasn’t proven why he was picked that high. He’s dealt with injuries, which makes it tough to gain traction. Not only that, but he’s also had multiple quarterbacks.

Harrison Jr. has shown flashes, but he has struggled to stay consistent. A player with that talent, though, is destined to break out at some point. Over training camp, he has looked fantastic, no matter who is throwing to him. He’s finally starting to develop the confidence that he’s been missing over the first couple of seasons of his career.

Harrison Jr. in LaFleur’s Offense

Headed into 2026, it looks like Harrison Jr. is going to have his best situation yet. The Cardinals have brought in Mike LaFleur, an offensive-minded head coach who is partly responsible for the leading receiver in touchdowns last year. He also has a solidified starting quarterback who likes to take risks. Jacoby Brissett has been a gunslinger the last couple of seasons. The expectation is that Brissett will have a similar play style this year. Harrison Jr. is gonna have the opportunity to showcase his true, uncapped potential in this offense.

Lafleur uses a heavy amount of 13 personnel sets. Last season, the Rams used this concept 36.8% of the time in the red zone and 29% overall. This concept is designed for a successful run game, but it also opens up play-action opportunities. Harrison Jr. fits this type of offense perfectly. With LaFleur, he has unlimited potential.

The Cardinals’ new head coach understands the talent he has at his disposal. With that being the case, LaFleur will be very critical of Harrison Jr. In a recent press conference, LaFleur stated that he wants his release to be more explosive off the line. “He gets off the ball fine, but he can do it better. That’s gonna unlock his game.”

Harrison Just Needs to Have Fun

Last season, Harrison Jr. accumulated just over 600 receiving yards. For a fourth overall pick, that is a low number, especially since he was their number one wide receiver. He didn’t seem to be playing like himself or “having fun.” Entering this season, though, he seems to be in better spirits.

“It’s a wide receiver’s dream,” Harrison Jr. said, referring to having a coach like LaFleur. He also stated, “I feel like we’ve had a great camp, not only myself, just as an offense. It’s been fun out there, and I have a lot of fun in the offense.” Harrison Jr. seems more confident going into his third season. One of the best tools a wideout can have is confidence.

That confidence isn’t just from himself or LaFleur. He’s receiving it from his teammates, specifically Kendrick Bourne, a veteran newcomer. He has always been a sparkplug for any locker room. He was a huge part of the 49ers’ team chemistry when they went to the Super Bowl in 2019. Bourne’s charismatic energy and overall vibe perfectly complement a young player like Harrison Jr.

Bourne is an NFL player who always looks like he’s having fun. Critics believe this is what Harrison Jr. has been missing ever since he got to the league. He’s got the tools, but he just hasn’t had the right mindset. With a new offense and teammates who lift him up, it’ll be huge for his mindset on game day.

Harrison Jr. is certainly due for a huge breakout season. Barring any major injury or setbacks, the Arizona wide receiver room looks set with him as their wide receiver one.

A new head coach, an established quarterback, and teammates who understand what he can do—that’s a recipe for massive success in Glendale. Harrison Jr. has had some people say he’s one of the best wide receiver prospects in a decade. Now, it’s up to him to show that and unleash his potential.
