Martin named Leicester boss in first job since Rangers sacking

Leicester City have named Russell Martin as their new manager.

Martin has signed a three-year deal with the Foxes, who also announced Gary Rowett will leave the club this summer,

Rowett was appointed as interim boss in hopes of keeping Leicester in the Championship, but a six-point deduction for previous spending breaches saw them relegated to League One.

This is Martin’s first role since being sacked by Rangers in October, just 123 days after being appointed manager at Ibrox Stadium.

“I’m delighted to be here and excited to begin working with the players and staff,” Martin told the club website.

“This is a club with great history, strong support and high expectations, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the Club, the city and the supporters.

“My immediate focus is on the team: building strong relationships, setting clear standards and creating performances that Leicester City supporters can connect with and be proud of.”

He is Leicester’s seventh permanent manager since April 2023, when FA Cup-winning boss Brendan Rodgers parted ways with the Foxes.

Martin does bring some League One experience with him, having managed MK Dons in the division between November 2019 and August 2021.

The 40-year-old won 24 of his 65 games in League One (D17 L24), guiding MK Dons to a 13th-place finish in 2020-21.
