Marquette Women’s Basketball Announces The 2026-27 Big East Schedule

I actually thought we were going to have to wait a minute for this.

We got the men’s basketball schedule for Big East play back on Monday, but only the dates, no television assignments or start times. I thought we might have to wait for the women’s basketball schedule until after the TV stuff got settled out, but NOPE. On Thursday afternoon, the Big East hard launched the women’s basketball calendar for league play in the 2026-27 season.

That’s Marquette’s full schedule, although for some reason, they managed to get the Wagner game wrong in there. It was announced as December 13 back in late August, I don’t know how it got goofed up in the graphics…. or why the graphics haven’t been deleted and reposted……. BUT ANYWAY, that’s the full schedule in the graphic on Instagram. We knew there was going to be some Big East games mixed into the non-con calendar based on gaps in there. That’s also why there appears to be gaps in the table version of the Big East slate, which is right here:

I’m not going to do a full schedule table version for now because we’ll do one when the tipoff times and TV assignments are announced. That’ll be for every game on Marquette’s schedule, so we’ll just mix it all together then.

Let’s get into interesting tidbits in the Big East slate, which includes a bit of information that’s in the MU press release on the schedule but NOT mentioned in the graphics package they put on social media….

• Yep, you read that right. Marquette will host UConn at Fiserv Forum on Sunday, February 7. I’ve been wondering if/when they were going to pull the trigger on this since the athletic department has kept putting Marquette/Wisconsin in volleyball down at the Milwaukee Bucks arena since it can clearly outdraw the capacity of the McGuire Center. Anything over 4,000 in attendance for this game will be better than the McGuire Center, and the more people in the building, the better it’ll be in terms of an atmosphere. I don’t think Marquette’s expecting to sell this out, but can they fill the lower bowl without even thinking that hard about it? Bet they can.

• This isn’t a purely women’s basketball note, but I want to put this into the atmosphere: Can I interest you in the idea of National Marquette WEEKEND? Shaka Smart’s team hosts Georgetown on February 6th. Clearly there’s going to be a lot of MU fans visiting Milwaukee for NMD no matter when it is. Wouldn’t it make sense to entice them to stick around a little bit longer and attend the UConn game on Sunday afternoon and really juice that crowd?

• Marquette starts Big East play with a very winnable road game at Xavier and then three straight home games. That’s a great runway to a chance at a positive start to league action when there’s a big pile of questions around Cara Consuegra’s team right now.

• Three straight at home there is the longest that Marquette goes in either direction during Big East action, although it’s worth noting that the third one is 10 days later with the Wagner game in the middle of the time away from conference play.

• Yes, that does mean that MU has to pay for that stretch of home games later. Three of the final five games of the league schedule are on the road, and all five of those are after hosting the Huskies. Two of the road games are probably two of MU’s tougher road games: at Villanova and the regular season finale at Creighton.

• Marquette will play just two home games while the students are out for Winter Break. One is St. John’s on December 17th, when there still could be a decent number of upperclassmen in their off-campus apartments, the other is Seton Hall on January 3rd. That’s kind of a bummer, because getting students in the building to hassle Tony Bozzella, SHU’s always demonstrative head coach, would be fun.

• Marquette finishes both games with Butler before they play Creighton once.

• The first three games of the Big East slate are in a seven day window.

• Marquette gets a week off between hosting Seton Hall and visiting DePaul in early January, 5 days off between a trip to Seton Hall and the home game against Creighton later in the month, and an 8 day gap in between visiting Georgetown and visiting Villanova in mid-February. I think the first one and the third one are intentionally built in byes in the league slate and the middle one is just a happy accident of scheduling a game on a Saturday and a Thursday.

• Other than those gaps, once league play starts in earnest after Christmas, Marquette is playing every three or four days. Eight Sunday games and five Wednesday games kind of helps draw that picture.
