Now, the front office will get to work and try to improve a roster that was greatly underwhelming in 2026.
Seattle’s first order of business may be to retain star outfielder Randy Arozarena, but his price tag may be high after a sixth consecutive 20-20 season.
The Mariners made an addition in the infield on Friday, claiming a first baseman off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds.
According to a team announcement, the Mariners have claimed Michael Toglia off waivers.
Toglia, 28, suffered a season-ending injury in September after dislocating his shoulder on a play in the outfield.
He played just 10 games with the Reds, hitting .115/.179/.192 with just three hits in 28 plate appearances.
Toglia is a former Colorado Rockies top prospect and hit 25 home runs with 2.1 bWAR in 116 games for the NL West club in 2024.

But a 39.2% strikeout rate with a 61 OPS+ in 88 games brought his numbers back down to earth the following season.
The Mariners have nothing to lose by giving Toglia a chance to prove himself in spring training.
He’s displayed good power but has otherwise looked overmatched against Major League pitching.
