Manchester United monitoring Marc Casado’s situation, midfielder could leave in search of more playing time

· · 1 min read

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Barcelona’s Marc Casado, with reports from Spain suggesting the midfielder could leave the Catalan giants in search of regular first-team football. Ahead of their Champions League return under Michael Carrick, United are prioritising a midfield overhaul this summer, with up to three new midfielders expected to arrive at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have already agreed a deal to sign Ederson and have opened talks with West Ham over Mateus Fernandes.

While United have also shown interest in Alex Scott and Carlos Baleba, the financial demands of those deals may prove prohibitive. Casado, however, represents a low-cost target, with Barcelona reportedly valuing the academy graduate at a realistic €25 million—a fee that would register as pure profit for the club. Casado’s willingness to leave Spotify Camp Nou stems from a congested squad. After making just 10 league starts last season, he has dropped to fifth in the pecking order following the returns of Gavi and Marc Bernal from long-term injuries, alongside the untouchable status of Pedri and Frenkie de Jong.

With two years left on his contract, the ‘spectacular’ Casado has accepted that his minutes will remain limited and is now considering his long-term future with the help of high-profile agent Jorge Mendes. Casado, unsurprisingly, has several suitors, including Atletico Madrid and Al Hilal, although a move to the Saudi Pro League appears unlikely for the 22-year-old. Having missed out on Spain’s World Cup squad, there could be developments regarding Casado’s future in the coming weeks.
