If Barcelona want to complete the signing of Rodri from Manchester City, they will simply have to meet City’s asking price for the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder. There is no if or but in that equation. That has been Manchester City’s stance ever since Barcelona’s intentions to sign Rodri became public. Rodri does have 12 months remaining on his contract with City and if Barcelona do not come to the party, Rodri will not be moving this summer. A new report has once again stated Manchester City’s asking price to sell Rodri. Barcelona shouldn’t have any issues paying it given that they were prepared to go big to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City have set their price to sell Rodri this summer.

Jeremy Cross has provided an update on Manchester City’s asking price and the general mood around the club regarding the sale of Rodri for the Manchester Evening News. As per Cross’s report, Manchester City will not sell their midfield general for less than £70 million. The City hierarchy feel that this is a fair price for Rodri given his importance and status at the club. Furthermore, Cross reports that City are happy to keep Rodri for next season and lose him for free when his contract expires.

Jeremy Cross also reports that Barcelona are set to offer £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons to sign Rodri. Manchester City rejected Barcelona’s opening offer to sign Rodri. However, Barcelona’s second bid for Spain’s World Cup winning captain will still fall short of City’s asking price. It is up to Barcelona to meet City’s demands for Rodri. There is no incentive for Manchester City to lower their asking price to cater to Rodri’s wish or Barcelona’s wish to sign Rodri for a lower transfer fee.

Barcelona will have no success in signing Rodri if they continue to low ball City, especially after making a sizable bid to sign Julian Alvarez.

If Barcelona want to sign Rodri this summer, they simply have to meet Manchester City’s asking price. City have laid out the terms that they will allow Rodri to fulfil his wish and return to Spain. It isn’t up to Manchester City to bend on those demands. Barcelona have to meet them. It is as simple as that. Also, Barcelona cannot continue to try and sign Rodri below City’s asking price via a lower fee than City have designated. They have already made it public that they have the funds available to sign Rodri for Manchester City’s asking price.

Earlier this summer, David Bernabeu of SPORT, reported that Barcelona submitted an offer of €100 million to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid rejected Barcelona’s offer. However, Barcelona’s bid for Alvarez shows they have money to spend this summer. Whether or not they are willing to spend what is required will dictate if Rodri does leave City this summer.

Manchester City’s terms to sell Rodri to Barcelona this summer are clear. Pay £70 million or Rodri stays. As per Jeremy Cross’ report, there is no wiggle room. The ball is now in Barcelona’s court. It is up to them to come to the party or they risk missing out on granting Rodri’s wish of returning to Spain.
