Manchester United and Crystal Palace have made contact over Toulouse midfielder Alexis Vossah, one of Ligue 1’s brightest young prospects.

Both Premier League clubs are said to be in dialogue with the 18-year-old’s representatives as they monitor his development closely.

The France Under-19 international enjoyed a breakout campaign. Vossah made 23 Ligue 1 appearances for Toulouse last season, a remarkable tally for a teenager, and even scored against Paris Saint-Germain. His performances quickly caught the eye across Europe.

His versatility is a major part of the appeal. Primarily a defensive midfielder, the France-Togolese talent can also operate in central defence.

Scouts have praised his vision, his composure in possession and his ability to strike the ball cleanly with either foot.

Chelsea know him well already, having tried to sign him last summer only to see a bid worth around €8m (£6.8m) rejected.

According to Fussball Europa, whose reporting sparked the latest speculation, the Blues remain admirers, though it is United and Palace who are most active this time.

Toulouse, however, are in no rush to sell. They have tied Vossah down to a contract until 2028, protecting his value.

The French club are understood to want around €25m (£21m) to part with a player they rate very highly. Crystal Palace may hold an edge in the race.

The Eagles recently completed a smooth deal with Toulouse for defender Jaydee Canvot, and that relationship could prove useful.

They also admire another Toulouse youngster in Charlie Cresswell. For United, Vossah fits a clear recruitment philosophy.

Michael Carrick’s side favour investing in emerging talent, and the midfielder would represent a long-term addition rather than an instant fix as they rebuild their engine room.

Any deal is likely to develop over the coming weeks. With no concrete offer yet lodged, the battle for one of France’s most promising midfielders is only just beginning.
