Malik Howard by the numbers in Oak Ridge-Halls overtime game
Oak Ridge High School (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) won at Halls High School (Knoxville, Tennessee), 16-13 in overtime, during a season opener for both schools on Aug. 21.
2027 Tennessee commit Malik Howard totaled two receptions for 27 yards for Oak Ridge.
He was one of multiple Oak Ridge players to suffer injuries in the game. Howard was not on the field for the game-winning play. Starting quarterback Brody Sparks was also injured in the contest and backup quarterback Kipton Feagan, a junior, completed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Zayden Williams on fourth down.
Howard also received Power Four scholarship offers from Kentucky, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Duke, Maryland, Purdue, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Florida, Syracuse, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arkansas, Colorado, Auburn, LSU, Northwestern and West Virginia.
Kentucky was the first school to offer Howard a scholarship on May 23, 2024. Tennessee offered him a scholarship on June 5, 2024.
Howard totaled 53 receptions for 778 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior in 2025.
Oak Ridge will next play on Friday versus Clinton High School. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. EDT at Blankenship Field in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Clinton is coached by Jake Dawson, a former undergraduate assistant at Tennessee under head coach Jeremy Pruitt. Clinton lost its season opener, 63-42, to Heritage High School (Maryville, Tennessee) on Aug. 21. Heritage is coached by former Vols’ assistant Joe Osovet, who worked with Dawson at Tennessee and Heritage.
