Madrid make Dumfries fourth signing of summer in €20m deal

Real Madrid have continued their busy recruitment drive by signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter in a €20m deal.

Dumfries had a release clause in his contract with the Nerazzurri, who he joined from PSV in 2021 and helped to win two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia crowns.

The right-back also helped Inter reach two Champions League finals during his stint in Italy, but both ended in defeat – to Manchester City in 2023 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2025.

Overall, he played 207 matches for the Milan giants, scoring 27 goals and supplying 22 assists.

He was limited to just 22 starts throughout 2025-26, though, as Cristian Chivu’s first season in charge resulted in a domestic double, with an ankle issue sidelining him for three months midway through the campaign.

He is the fourth new signing Madrid have made already this off-season, as they prepare for their first campaign under Jose Mourinho since 2012-13.

Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate had already joined on free transfers, while a €60m deal for Marc Cucurella means Los Blancos will likely have new starters at both full-back positions.

Dumfries, who has signed a four-year contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, started all four of the Netherlands’ games at the World Cup, supplying two assists as they won their group before losing on penalties to Morocco in the round of 32.

His competitive Madrid debut could come against Real Sociedad, who will be their first opponents of the new LaLiga season on the weekend of August 15 or 16.
