LSU football coach Lane Kiffin believes he’s the ‘most hated man in America,’ and he might not be wrong.

After leaving his job at Ole Miss for the Tigers, a fellow SEC school, just before the Rebels’ College Football Playoff run, Kiffin drew the ire of fans, players, and analysts alike. But on Saturday night, the hate and frustration and criticism didn’t slow down LSU. In fact, it might have helped.

At halftime of what would become a 51-10 win vs. Clemson, Kiffin, whose team was already up 31-3, made sure the Tigers did not come out of the break complacent. In a video seemingly secretly recorded and leaked by a member of the LSU staff, Kiffin delivered an expletive-laden speech before leaving the locker room.

“Alright guys, we started here like 7-8 months ago, whatever it was. And we asked you to work really hard. And we asked you to come back to work again and again and again. Do you feel good about what happened? Who gives the fk what happened? That’s what’s supposed to happen! Ain’t no fking celebrations for that! They’re fking soft! They weren’t different! We’re fking different! So you gotta show ’em again!

“They’re gonna come out; it doesn’t matter what plays they run. It doesn’t matter what they do on offense, defense. Put the next motherfking quarterback in. I don’t give a fk. You send ’em a fking message. Who the fk is on their schedule? They have to play you! And don’t think we let up late! No matter if you’re in a game for one snap or 50 more snaps. You fking take it out of them! The whole fking world hates you! So you get a chance to show the whole world: Go f**k yourself.”

The speech seemed to work. LSU held Clemson scoreless in the third quarter and extended its lead to 44-3 going into the final period. In the loss, Clemson used two quarterbacks — Christopher Vizzina and Tait Reynolds — with the pair going a combined 14-for-22 for 105 yards and one interception.

In total, LSU outgained Clemson 644 to 145, had 30 more first downs, had 10 more third-down conversions, ran nearly twice as many plays, and punted eight fewer times.

LSU, ranked eighth in the country, will host Louisiana Tech this Saturday before opening SEC play against what has certainly become an archrival, Ole Miss, on Sept. 19. Kiffin and the Tigers will travel to Oxford for that game.
