Lothar Matthäus drafts his Germany starting XI

Former Bayern Munich star Lothar Matthäus has his say on pretty much everything that goes down in German football, both on the club and country level. This time around, he has his say on what Germany’s starting XI should look like against Netherlands for their UEFA Nation’s League match on the 24th of September.

Matthäus’ XI has mostly familiar names, and shakes it up just a little from the Julian Nagelsmann era. One notable addition is Josha Vagnoman, current player for VfB Stuttgart, who has only 2 caps at the international level under Hansi Flick. Both appearances were in a friendly game. The pundit also wants to put Marc-Andre ter Stegen between the sticks, maybe giving the more experienced keeper the opportunity over Alexander Nübel.

Klopp came up with two separate squads for Germany, one for each upcoming international break, and they include many names that have yet to appear in German colors. Matthäus wants to have big names on the pitch, but also some of those breakout talents like Kevin Schade, Felix Nmecha, and Nathaniel Brown. The Netherlands game will be Klopp’s first test of compatibility, and an opportunity to see how his new vision for Germany plays out.
