Andoni Iraola’s men have been linked with several new players this season.

Although plenty of money was spent by Liverpool in the summer, more changes need to be made.

Many different options have emerged for the Anfield outfit and, while some are genuinely exciting, others are a tad questionable.

Obviously, because the Reds have spent so much money over the last couple of seasons, they’re likely to be a tad hindered in terms of what they can and can’t do.

That’s why, last summer, so many members of their first-team squad were moved on.

And, although things have got better, there are always going to be ways for things to improve.

Kees Smit’s new contract means Liverpool aren’t likely to sign him

For some time now, Liverpool’s fanbase have been demanding that their club brings in a new midfielder.

Ever since Fabinho exited Anfield, things just haven’t been the same.

And, even though others such as Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been used to plug the gap left by the Brazilian, neither of them compare to what it would be like for Liverpool to have a natural number six.

Several different players have emerged as potential options with AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit being one of them.

Throughout the summer, others were also linked but, now that the Dutchman has signed a new deal with the Eredivisie outfit until 2030, their move for him can be ruled out.

Obviously, signing the 20-year-old would have been a huge risk as he’s never played outside of his home country but, now that move is off the table, it feels like Liverpool may have been pushed closer to signing Alex Scott.

Alex Scott is Liverpool’s ‘prime target’ for midfield

Of all the players linked with Liverpool, the transfer of Scott makes the most sense.

The Englishman already knows how to play in Iraola’s system and, since he’s still only 23 years old, he has almost all of his career still ahead of him, which is why he’s now the Reds’ “prime target.”

This term, he managed to pick straight back up from where he left off last season and has quickly proven why he’s one of Bournemouth’s most important players.

The fact that the former Bristol City man is also homegrown makes a huge difference as, it means that Liverpool would be able to sign him without getting rid of anyone.

As, one of the other main problems that they’re facing at the moment is the lack of homegrown talent that they have among their ranks.

All of these reasons are just further proof why Scott is the one for Liverpool and, now that a deal for Smit is off the table, it’s one less player for Liverpool to think about signing which means that they could be edging closer to signing Scott.
