Keelon Russell gets his first start at quarterback as Alabama football takes on East Carolina in the season opener at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Crimson Tide sophomore backed up Ty Simpson and Austin Mack last year as Alabama made a run for the Rose Bowl. However, it was Russell who won the position battle over Mack entering the 2026 season.
Russell appeared in two games for the Crimson Tide as a freshman in 2025 and went 11-for-15 in the air for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Once the No. 2 QB recruit in the nation, Russell is expected to have more opportunities to lift the run-game and show off his dual-threat capabilities.
