Germany’s Florian Lipowitz has been nominated for the Road World Championships, just two months after breaking his collarbone at the Tour de France.

Lipowitz, third on last year’s Tour, only made his comeback on Wednesday at a one-day race in Tuscany.

The 25-year-old will lead the six-man German team for the road race in Montreal on September 27, which also includes Maximilian Schachmann, Marco Brenner, Georg Zimmermann, Felix Engelhardt and Nico Denz, German Cycling said in a statement on Thursday.

After defending champion Tadej Pogačar was ruled out with injury, Belgian former titleholder Remco Evenepoel is considered the favourite for more world glory.

For the individual time trial a week earlier, national coach Jens Zemke nominated Jasha Sütterlin and Maximilian Walscheid, while Nikias Arndt will also be used in the mixed relay.

According to dpa information, German time trial champion Nils Politt, who would also have been a valuable rider in the road race, was not released for the worlds by UAE Team Emirates XRG.

In the women’s road race in Canada, Franziska Koch, Ricarda Bauernfeind, Liane Lippert and Antonia Niedermaier will start with medal hopes. The quartet will be supported by Linda Riedmann.
