A new £2.1m football pitch has been opened at an East Yorkshire leisure centre.
The 3G facility at the Haltemprice Leisure Centre was funded by commuted sums paid by property developers to build playing areas and a £975,000 grant from the Premier League, FA and the government’s Football Foundation.
The pitch also has floodlighting, new changing facilities and additional car parking.
Three local football clubs will use the facility and it is planned to become a hub to help develop women and girls football, East Riding of Yorkshire Council said.
Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure, said he was “delighted to see the completion of this fantastic new 3G pitch”.
He added: “It represents a significant investment in local sport and will provide a high-quality facility for players of all ages and abilities.
“As a weather-resilient surface, the 3G pitch will ensure year-round access and reduce disruption caused by poor ground conditions.
“This will make a real difference to grassroots football in the area, helping more people to stay active and enjoy the game.”
