Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask Remake Teased As Ocarina Of Time Launches

· · 3 min read

Unless you have simply no interest in it at all, you were likely stirred by the return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a long-awaited remake at the start of November. It was already one of the most beloved games of all-time, so all Nintendo really had to do was update the visuals, add some quality-of-life features and keep everything else the same.

Happily, that’s largely what they did, and it may well end up being one of the best games of the last few years. Critic consensus certainly seems to think so, with the game currently the highest rated of the last year on Metacritic, sitting on a fairly staggering rating of 96 at the time of writing.

It’s certainly testament to the fact that older games in the franchise returning like this will always be appealing to fans, and it’s a lot less demanding on a development team than creating an entirely new game. That leads us to the exciting question of where we go next as players, and if a recent teaser is to be believed, we could be moving on to the sequel.

Though it didn’t quite manage to capture the same ridiculous level of devotion as Ocarina, Majora’s Mask remains one of the most beloved games in the series to date. It adopted a darker and more abstract tone than the previous effort, and it had some fascinating mechanics that other games simply weren’t doing at the time.

As first reported by GameRant, the Nintendo Today App has seen a newly animated version of Majora’s Mask’s key visual art published within it. Running at just seven seconds, it features all the game’s characters in full motion, with Young Link taking center stage once again.

This new Majora’s Mask animation is only visible to Nintendo Today users who have selected The Legend of Zelda as the app’s overall theme, which you can do yourself for free in the settings.

As much as it might be a simple coincidence, the signs are starting to stack up that Majora’s Mask could be Nintendo’s next target for the remake treatment. Ocarina of Time is already proving to be a huge success, and it would make sense if they had a logical next step to embark on.

As well as being the sequel, Majora’s Mask has also been cropping us elsewhere, providing further clues that it could be the next game up to bat. The biggest of those is that the IMDB page of Adult Link VA Noboyuki Hiyama was updated with an unannounced game currently in post-production called The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask HD. Neither Hiyama nor Nintendo have commented on the listing, though it remains up on the page to this day.

In any case, as someone who grew up playing the game, it really would be nice to see Majora’s Mask return for the modern generation of hardware. Add to that the next game in the mainline Legend of Zelda series, and fans could be in for a bumper few years.
