LeBron James‘ business partner Maverick Carter is pushing back against buzz that the new 76ers star is doing a docuseries this season.
“We are NOT doing anything like the ‘last dance’ LeBron doesn’t even know when his last season is,” Carter, 44, wrote on X on Thursday, July 30.
Carter’s assertion came after a report in The Athletic cited multiple sources claiming that a series similar to Michael Jordan‘s The Last Dance was on the “1-yard line” from getting the green light.
In senior sports media columnist Andrew Marchand’s piece, the project was described as including a camera crew to follow James, 41, as he adapted to Philadelphia in what is “expected to be the final home of his legendary career.”

The former Los Angeles Lakers star signed a two-year, $8 million deal on July 26 to join Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe on the 76ers’ projected 2026-27 starting lineup.
The Athletic story did not offer details about when the project would be completed or when it would air.
Jordan’s 10-part documentary captivated millions during the COVID-19 pandemic, when ESPN broadcast an episode of the series each week. The Last Dance won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series in 2020.
James’ decision to move on from the Lakers after eight seasons came 24 days into his free agency, and was announced on July 24.
The NBA star’s agent Rich Paul recently opened up about the protracted decision.

“You can see from the end of the season … the emotional attachments and how hard it is to go away from a Miami and go away from a Cleveland,” the CEO of Klutch Sports Group said on his Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman on Friday, July 24. “Who wouldn’t want to play with Steph Curry and Draymond Green?”
He added about James’ decision, in which he was considering the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors: “I’m seeing the emotional roller coaster every single day.”
