The Lagos State Government has advised motorists to prepare for partial traffic disruption around the Kara Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as repair works on the bridge’s expansion joint are set to begin on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

A statement by the Ministry of Transportation disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Works will carry out the rehabilitation, which is expected to last for two weeks.

According to the ministry, the repair work will require a temporary reduction of the existing four-lane carriageway to two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the bridge to create a safe working area for engineers.

The ministry said the lane reduction is expected to cause moderate traffic around the Fatgbems Turn, as some motorists may make U-turns or use alternative routes to avoid delays.

“To facilitate the repair works, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to provide a safe work zone,” the ministry said.

It, however, assured road users that vehicles travelling towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn are expected to move with little or no disruption throughout the repair period.

Motorists were advised to plan their trips ahead, consider alternative routes where possible, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor to ease traffic flow.

The ministry also appealed to members of the public for understanding, noting that the rehabilitation is aimed at improving the safety and durability of Kara Bridge for the benefit of all road users.
