South Carolina trailed No. 11 Tennessee 24-17 with 1:17 left on Saturday when LaNorris Sellers took a third-down run to the right from the Volunteers’ 4-yard line. He was hit short of the goal line, kept his feet as more defenders arrived, then fell backward and stretched the ball across for the tying touchdown.
The Gamecocks won 27-24 when Malik Orsan hit a 48-yard field goal as time expired, improving to 4-3 and 2-3 in the SEC.
“I’ve been watching football a long time. I have never seen anyone make the play LaNorris Sellers made here. Ever,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on X.
“He’s freakin unbelievable. The play he made to score that touchdown. Unreal, one of the great plays probably in the history of South Carolina football,” Shane Beamer said after the game.
“It’s a DB, I’m 240 pounds, he’s going to wrap me up, try to slow me down but you just gotta find a way,” Sellers said.

Why the comeback stands out in Shane Beamer’s tenure
Before Saturday, South Carolina was 1-28 under Beamer when trailing by seven or more points in the fourth quarter. Sellers’ run turned the kind of game the Gamecocks have almost never won under Beamer into a tie with 77 seconds to play.
The Gamecocks had built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, then were outscored 21-3 in the second and trailed until Sellers reached the end zone.
Tennessee had three touchdowns wiped out by penalties, and Josh Heupel’s decision to go for it on fourth-and-1 at the South Carolina 38 with about 3:30 left ended with MacIntyre stopped in the backfield. That stop handed Sellers the ball one more time with a chance to tie. After Sellers tied it, Dylan Stewart strip-sacked George MacIntyre, and Tomi Durojaiye recovered at the Tennessee 34 with 33 seconds remaining to set up Orsan’s kick.
Sellers led South Carolina with 96 rushing yards on 18 carries and two rushing touchdowns. He also completed 18 of 32 passes for 210 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The win was South Carolina’s first home SEC victory since September 2025 and Beamer’s ninth win over a ranked team in six seasons, but his first walk-off against a Top 25 opponent. It was also the Gamecocks’ second straight win over a ranked team after they beat No. 15 Florida on Oct. 10, and it made Beamer the second Gamecocks coach, after Steve Spurrier, to beat Tennessee and Florida in the same season, and Sellers the only quarterback in program history to beat both.
