Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens haven’t worked out a contract extension yet, and whenever a player this big goes this long without a deal, there are rumblings of what’s really going on behind the scenes.
The Ravens go up against the Indianapolis Colts in their season opener in Week 1, and ahead of the matchup, The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones is sharing his notes about what’s really going on inside the Baltimore camp with this superstar quarterback.
A league source in his story also addressed a possible “beef” going on, because that’s obviously been on the mind of those keeping close tabs on this situation.
Is there really a beef between Lamar Jackson and the Ravens?
So, is there a beef? Not at all, according to a source in the NFL.
“People definitely think there’s beef, but they’re wrong,” a league source said in Jones’ story. “In the past, and now.”
Jones also said some things that should make Ravens fans sleep easier at night. He says these two want to get a deal done, even if it’s not here yet.
“After spending the summer, particularly the past week, talking with league and team sources, all of whom spoke under condition of anonymity to discuss such a sensitive topic, I do not get the sense there is any animus between the team and player,” Jones said in the feature.
He added, “In fact, I would go as far as to say the relationship between Jackson and the team is the healthiest it’s been. My understanding is that both parties have every intention of continuing their work together for years to come.”
So, it appears both sides are on friendly terms. They may not be close to a deal yet, but they want to get there.
