Lakers in Contract Talks With LeBron James Amid Warriors Rumors

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James is a free agent this summer, once again sparking the usual cycle of speculation and talk around his future.

This time, the odds are that James will leave rather than stay, with multiple concrete reports linking him back to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers for one last ride, or possibly to the Golden State Warriors for a blockbuster move to play with Steph Curry.

James has legitimate options and now, more than ever, he is further disassociated from the Lakers as a franchise.

The Lakers are Luka Doncic’s team now, and they are building with him in mind, making James more of a side character in terms of their construction.

By all accounts, James will give the Warriors an audience, looking out to see how feasible a move is and how he fits with a team built around Stephen Curry.

However, the Lakers are still in play, as they are the easiest fit for James and have a path to actually afford him.

In fact, NBA insider Brian Windhorst believes that the Lakers and James are still holding talks.

“I think the focus right now is making a deal with the Lakers. Right now he’s allowed to negotiate with the Lakers and I believe they are negotiating, I believe they’re going back and forth,” Windhorst said.

Where should LeBron James sign?

James has his whole life set up in Los Angeles, with his kids growing up there and him having a massive home in the city as well. He still holds considerable influence and weight in the city as his production company grows alongside other ventures.

A fresh start with the Warriors or Cavaliers could theoretically increase his title odds, but there are a lot of unknowns that could go wrong as well.

If James wants to play it safe and retire in a comfortable spot, he should likely stay in LA. He can earn the most money and still be on a winning team in a massive market.

However, if he wants to check things off his bucket list, like playing with Stephen Curry or James Harden, James should indeed go elsewhere. His brand does well anywhere, and James could stand to gain an additional sense of rejuvenation.
