Lakers’ could cut ties with Bronny James for non-LeBron James reason

The whole Bronny James question for the Los Angeles Lakers is one of the more interesting in the NBA. After his father, LeBron James, decided to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, some have suggested that Bronny could end up in Philadelphia.

As of right now, it doesn’t sound like the Lakers have any interest in moving on from him in the simple sense of just cutting ties with him. If anything, it sounds like the Lakers want something back in return for Bronny, and that isn’t a bad idea. It seems like they like him as a player, and if that’s truly the case, why move on from him just because his father decided to take his talents elsewhere?

As for whether the Lakers are planning to do that, a team insider has the latest.

“Could the Lakers move on from Bronny James? He’s got a team-option next year, so you would just decline that team-option, you could waive him. That would result in about $2.3 million in dead money sitting in your books. Not the end of the word; that would be just for this season. … That said, Bronny was actually fairly good last season. Quietly, he shot 39 percent from 3, last year Bronny did,” Trevor Lane said, per Heavy.

As crazy as it might sound to some, I actually don’t think moving on from Bronny would be the right decision.

I like that he could help his father finish his career, and I think it would be a great story, but if the Lakers are working on a simple what’s-best-for-us type of plan, then Bronny should be on the team. The only way that he shouldn’t be is if they can find a player better than him to be at the back end of their bench.
