Lakers Announce Summer League Schedule, Roster With Surprise Omission

The Los Angeles Lakers detailed their Summer League roster and schedule for this year, with the team set to take part in the Las Vegas and California editions of the tournament.

The Lakers’ action will start Friday, July 3rd, when they face the Golden State Warriors in San Fransico at the Chase Center.

Then they play two more games: one on Sunday, July 5th, against the Miami Heat, and another on July 6th against the San Antonio Spurs.

Following Monday’s game, the squad heads to Las Vegas for the main event. They play the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 10 before taking on the Dallas Mavericks on July 11.

The Lakers face the Los Angeles Clippers on July 14 and finish off against the Chicago Bulls on July 16.

From then on, there is the four-team championship tournament or consolation games from July 17-19.

There is one major surprise on the team — Bronny James is not on the team this year, despite still having played so little NBA action and bouncing around between the NBA and G-League.

Why is Bronny James not on the Summer League team?

Naturally, Bronny’s future comes into question because his father left the Lakers organization. LeBron has not signed anywhere yet, but he has already announced his departure from his home of eight years.

Many assume the Lakers will either deal or cut Bronny so he can play for his father’s team. However, the Lakers have been high on Bronny since drafting him, praising his work ethic and overall improvement.

While it is possible that he may be in flux with the organization due to his dad’s status, Bronny could just be looking to develop on his own. Only a handful of players complete more than two tours with the Summer League team.

In fact, there is likely little more that he can gain from this kind of experience.

Still, chatter about his status will likely only get louder now that he will not be in SF or Vegas.
