Lagos police present N89.2m to families of 157 deceased officers

The Lagos State Police Command has presented 157 cheques valued at N89,201,523.07 to families and next of kin of deceased police officers who served under the Command.

A statement by the Command said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, presented the cheques on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

The cheques cover claims under the Nigeria Police Force’s welfare and insurance schemes to provide financial support to families of officers who died in the line of duty.

The presentation reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the welfare of its personnel and families of officers who died in service.

Speaking at the presentation, the Commissioner of Police noted that while the financial support cannot replace the lives of the deceased officers, it demonstrates the Force’s resolve to honour their sacrifices and ensure that their families are not abandoned.

Fatai sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to make judicious use of the funds, particularly for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants left behind by the deceased officers.

He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to facilitating the prompt processing of legitimate claims due to families of deceased personnel.

The Commissioner assured serving officers that their welfare and that of their families remain a priority of the Nigeria Police Force.

“While the financial support cannot replace the lives of the deceased officers, it demonstrates the Force’s resolve to honour their sacrifices and ensure that their families are not abandoned,” Fatai noted.

The Lagos State Police Command appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for the intervention and extended its heartfelt sympathy and continued solidarity to the beneficiaries.
