Kyren Williams’ mistake opening door for Blake Corum in Fantasy Football & Rams backfield

The NFL’s Los Angeles Rams may be looking at a shift in their backfield hierarchy, as running back Kyren Williams‘ latest miscue could be paving the way for Blake Corum to see an increased role.

Williams fumbled the ball during the Rams’ 28-6 win over the New York Giants on Monday night, marking the 10th fumble of his career as a Ram.

Corum, by contrast, had been fumble-free in his time with the team — though he did lose control of the ball for the first time on Monday against the Giants, he was able to recover it himself.

The numbers from Week 2 tell an interesting story. Williams, who remains the presumptive starter, carried the ball the exact same number of times as Corum, and finished with only six more rushing yards than his backup. Still, Williams handled the larger share of the workload overall, playing more than 60 percent of the offensive snaps compared to less than 30 percent for Corum.

Through two games this season, the 26-year-old Williams has rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. Last season, he ran for more than 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns, cementing himself as the clear lead back entering his fifth year with the Rams.

Corum, 25, has been quietly productive in a smaller role, totaling 133 yards on just 22 carries this season — more yards on fewer attempts than Williams. Last season, he rushed for 746 yards and six touchdowns as the primary backup.

With Williams’ fumbling issues resurfacing and Corum making the most of his limited opportunities, fantasy managers and Rams fans alike may want to keep a close eye on how the coaching staff distributes carries moving forward.

The Rams (1-1) will hit the road to face the Denver Broncos (1-1) on Sunday in Week 3.
