That’s right, the heroes of KPop Demon Hunters are back. Last year, the Netflix and Sony animated movie wowed the world. It introduced viewers to HUNTR/X, the latest in a long line of demon hunters who combine music and magic to protect the planet from the forces of Gwi-Ma. The hit movie is now turning into the foundation for a whole new franchise, with KPop Demon Hunters 2 in the works, and so much more.
Published by Penguin Random House, the KPop Demon Hunters Deluxe Screen Comic is on sale now. A beautiful double-book edition, it transforms the Academy Award-winning movie into over 700 pages of full-color comics. It features song lyrics from the full soundtrack, a gorgeous holographic foil slipcase, and two foldout posters of HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys. The spines of the graphic novels are absolutely beautiful, showing Rumi’s two natures.

The Deluxe Screen Comics Are A Beautiful Retelling Of HUNTR/X’s Saga
Screen Rant received a copy of the KPop Demon Hunters Deluxe Screen Comic from Penguin Random House. The art is pulled straight from the film, and it reveals just how absolutely gorgeous the animation really is. Every frame pops in this new format, while the overall design of the gutters has been used in a truly creative manner. Reading through, one thing really stood out to me; how dark some of the moments in this story really are. Action scenes are bordered by black gutters, emphasizing the sinister nature of the demons.
Naturally the experience of reading a screen comic is very different to watching the movie. That’s particularly true when it comes to KPop Demon Hunters‘ songs; “How It’s Done” runs over a stunning 37 pages, for example, with every lyric placed alongside a different frame. Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for the climactic song “What It Sounds Like,” and I love how the Deluxe Screen Comic renders this.
I love the moment when the HUNTR/X costumes turn a beautiful, brilliant white. The black gutters contrast with this in a delightful way, really emphasizing the beauty of the animation and the shimmering bright costume designs.
I admit, I was a little unsure about how effective a comic adaptation of KPop Demon Hunters would be. At times, it takes a little too long for my liking; as beautiful as the individual pages with the lyrics may be, they affect the overall pace of the story, making it all move a lot slower. That’s a difficult compromise, but it does make for a remarkable book, where you can enjoy every single panel and get a sense of just how much care and attention went into the individual panels.
Looking at this, it’s easy to see why KPop Demon Hunters 2 is taking so long to make. There’s a reason the first film won an Oscar for Best Animated Film; it’s because it really was a product of love, with so much care and attention paid into even the smallest details. The sequel has got to match or even exceed this, if KPop Demon Hunters is to become the franchise Sony and Netflix want it to be. For now, this new release will serve as a welcome reminder: HUNTR/X really don’t miss.
