Kompany backs Musiala to come back strong from latest setback

Jamal Musiala is Bayern Munich’s only absentee ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with FC Augsburg, head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed on Friday.

The 23-year-old has endured a frustrating run of injury setbacks in recent years and began the current season on the sidelines after suffering two collapses linked to absence seizures during pre-season.

Having worked his way back to fitness and returned to action, Musiala suffered another setback during the international break, as he was forced to leave the Germany national team camp with a thigh injury.

The German international must once again focus on his recovery, with Kompany confident he will bounce back.

“I can relate to his story of setbacks. I’ve experienced that often in my own career. Coming back from that is a great strength,” said the former Manchester City defender at a press conference on Friday.

“I hope he can enjoy playing football again in the coming years, and I believe he will. Once you learn how to come back from moments like these, you carry that ability with you for the rest of your life,” added Kompany.

“That’s something Jamal has always shown. In every situation, he knows how to fight his way back, and he always comes back. We’ve seen how happy the team and fans are when he scores a goal. We’ll experience those moments again.

“We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays fit and can perform at his best. But because he’s already managed to come back before, he’ll be able to do it again and again. Without a doubt.”

It remains unclear when Musiala will return, but the German international took a step forward earlier this week by resuming individual training.
