KKR vs MI IPL 2026 at Kolkata: Match Preview

Kolkata Knight Riders return to their fortress at Eden Gardens on May 20 for what is effectively a knockout match against Mumbai Indians.

After losing each of their first six matches and appearing to be heading toward an early exit, KKR have since won five of their following six games to keep their campaign breathing.

The problem is that even winning both of their remaining fixtures may not be enough to secure a top-four berth.

Two players who were dropped earlier in the season for poor form are now the driving force behind this resurgence. Finn Allen has been exceptional since his return, scoring 240 runs at a strike rate of 233. Angkrish Raghuvanshi has complemented him beautifully, contributing 213 runs at an average of 71, providing the kind of consistency that anchors the innings even when boundaries are not coming in clusters.

The bigger uncertainty for KKR surrounds Matheesha Pathirana. The Sri Lankan fast bowler walked off the field with a hamstring concern just eight balls into his very first appearance for the franchise, three days ago, and all-rounder Anukul Roy confirmed on match eve that the assessment of his fitness is still ongoing. If Pathirana is ruled out, KKR may turn to Blessing Muzarabani, who has not played since April 2.

Meanwhile, MI will be further strengthened by the return of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik missed the previous three games with back spasms, while Suryakumar sat out the Punjab Kings fixture for personal reasons. Both are available for selection.
