This past weekend marked our first UK basketball/football doubleheader, and now we’re preparing for another with two games in Lexington this coming weekend for the Kentucky Wildcats.
On Friday, Mark Pope’s Wildcats will face a stiff pre-season test, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders come to town. The Red Raiders are projected to be a top-25 team to start the season, but they currently face eligibility questions regarding some key players, including returners Darrion Williams and Donovan Atwell, as well as UCF transfer JaMichael Stillwell.
Star forward JT Toppin is also out this week as he continues to recover from a torn ACL that will likely keep him out until sometime in conference play.
Regardless, Texas Tech under Grant McCasland has been solid and should be a good measuring stick to see where this Kentucky team stands heading into the season.
Meanwhile, Kentucky Football returns home for an SEC matchup against Vanderbilt in front of what was recently announced as a sold-out crowd at Kroger Field.
While Vanderbilt has struggled this season, currently sitting at 3-4, this isn’t a game the Wildcats can overlook. Vanderbilt has won three of the last four matchups between these two teams, and after losing four straight in SEC play, the Commodores will be desperate for a win on Saturday.
