Kentucky Wildcats News: Mo Williams’ Impact on UK Basketball
Kentucky Basketball had quite the finish to the weekend as head coach Mark Pope and his staff landed one of the best players in the 2027 recruiting class.
Ryan Hampton, a 6-foot-6 forward from Daytona Beach, is ranked No. 6 in the ’27 class and at the top for his position.
Landing Hampton came just a handful of days after the Wildcats secured the transfer of top-portal prospect Milan Momcilovic — capping off arguably the best recruiting week of Pope’s career.
For a coach who has certainly had his struggles with recruiting and recently in the transfer portal, this was a major turnaround. He’s also received heavy criticism for those struggles, so it’s important to also give credit when it’s due.
And one of the biggest moves Pope made appears to be adding former NBA star Mo Williams to the coaching staff.
Can confirm a lot of what @PolacheckKSR references here.
Have heard from multiple people in and around college hoops, the impact Mo Williams is having in UK recruiting.
Not a knock on the rest of the staff, but a lot of kids leaving campus saying “I wanna work with that guy.” https://t.co/CiBzIOOWYR

According to college basketball reporter Aaron Torres, the addition of Williams to the Kentucky staff is having a major effect that could lead more players to the Wildcats. Williams was a major reason why Hampton committed to the Wildcats, and he could be changing the recruiting game for Pope and Co.
Not to say Pope ever lost his swag, but it’s clear that he’s found heavy momentum here recently and will look to stay hot as he continues to build out next year’s roster with Williams leading the charge in recruiting.
