Silly season is in high gear for the teams in the IndyCar Series.
Several drivers have already announced a change in plans for 2027 with the Arrow McLaren’s IndyCar team adding two former Indianapolis 500 winners.
This week Arrow McLaren announced that reigning Indy 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist and six-time NTT IndyCar Series Champion Scott Dixon will be joining the Indianapolis-based race team.
Dixon and Rosenqvist will round out the 2027 driver lineup alongside current Arrow McLaren driver Pato O’Ward, the most recent winner at Mid-Ohio.
The team is expected to have a third Indy 500 champion on its driver line-up next May with Ryan Hunter-Reay expected to compete.
“This lineup of Pato, Scott, Felix and Ryan will strengthen every aspect of our program,” said Arrow McLaren CEO Zak Brown. “We’ve got our eyes firmly set on the Championship as well as winning the Indianapolis 500.”
The surprise was Dixon leaving Ganassi Racing after 25 years with that team.
Dixon is a six-time series champion and won the Indy 500 in 2008.
The Arrow McLaren move means that drivers Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel will be departing.
Lundgaard already a winner this year could be expected to sign with Ganassi Racing.
Siegel could be the odd man out in 2027 although he is hoping to secure a new ride.
Obviously for Arrow McLaren the move is all about winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2027.
There are sure to be additional driver announcements in the next few weeks.
In other racing news: It was great to see NASCAR return to the Chicagoland Speedway this past weekend and it can only be hoped the track will remain on the schedule in the future.
The series is set to run in Atlanta this weekend and will be in Indianapolis on July 26 to race on the oval.
Jackson Macenko, who won his first 500 Sprint Car Tour race at Winchester Speedway will be competing in the Craftsman Truck Series race that weekend at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The 500 Sprint Car Tour will be in action this weekend for the first time at Jennerstown Speedway in the Keystone State.
The teams should put on a good show on the half-mile oval and will be broadcast on Racing America.
This weekend at Anderson Speedway will be the 30th running of the Fritz/Dietzen Memorial Race for the Beaver Contracting Legends.
A strong field of cars is expected with local driver John Robbins looking to add another victory in the 50-lap event.
He will be challenged by Xavier King and Dalton Conner for the win.
