Kelsey Mitchell entered Thursday night’s game carrying an illness designation and left it with two more entries in the record book. The Indiana Fever guard was listed as probable before being cleared to face the Dallas Wings. Any concern about her availability disappeared almost immediately, as Mitchell erupted for 21 points before halftime.

That early scoring barrage extended one historic streak and allowed Mitchell to surpass a familiar name in the Fever’s franchise record book: her own. Mitchell finished with 37 points despite Indiana’s 91-85 loss. She shot 9-of-18 from the floor, made four of her seven 3-point attempts and went a perfect 15-of-15 at the free-throw line.

Mitchell stands alone after 21st consecutive 20-point game

Mitchell entered the night having scored at least 20 points in 20 consecutive games. That tied Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson for the longest such streak in WNBA history. It took Mitchell only one half to claim the record for herself.

Her 21-point opening half guaranteed a 21st consecutive game with at least 20 points, giving her sole possession of a league mark that reflects both her explosive ability and remarkable consistency.

The Fever celebrated Mitchell’s accomplishment during the game.

Mitchell also established a new Indiana single-season scoring record. She passed the previous mark she set herself, reaching 891 points in her 37th game of the season before adding to that total during the remainder of the contest. Both milestones further strengthen Mitchell’s place in the WNBA MVP discussion.

She entered Thursday averaging 24.3 points while shooting 50.7% from the field and 44.3% from beyond the arc. That combination of volume and efficiency has made Mitchell much more than a complementary scorer alongside Caitlin Clark.

Fever’s loss cannot diminish Mitchell’s night

Indiana could not complete a sixth consecutive victory, but Mitchell gave the Fever every opportunity to escape Dallas with another win. She scored from the perimeter, attacked the basket and repeatedly earned trips to the line. Her perfect performance on 15 free throws was particularly important during a game Indiana lost by only six points.

The result also demonstrated why the Fever’s postseason hopes do not rest on one star. Clark remains the engine of Indiana’s offense, but Mitchell has developed into one of the league’s most dependable scorers. Indiana wanted another win Thursday. Instead, the Fever received a reminder that Mitchell is in the middle of one of the greatest offensive seasons in franchise history.
