Keionte Scott delivers huge two-point breakup in Bucs win

· · 1 min read

Rookie defensive back Keionte Scott made one of Tampa Bay’s biggest defensive plays of the night in the Buccaneers‘ 24-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

After Dak Prescott connected with George Pickens for a fourth-quarter touchdown to bring the Cowboys within one score, Dallas went for two with 5:26 remaining. Prescott looked for Ryan Flournoy, but Scott stayed with the play and broke up the pass, keeping Tampa Bay’s lead at eight points, opposed to six.

That breakup kept the Cowboys from cutting their point deficit to six and gave the Buccaneers a little more breathing room in the final minutes of the contest. Dallas still had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes, but Tampa Bay’s defense stepped up when defensive captain Alex Anzalone came down with a tipped interception with 1:16 remaining in the game.

Scott finished the night with seven tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defensed, but the two-point breakup was easily his biggest moment. For a rookie playing in a close road game on Thursday night, it was exactly the kind of timely play Tampa Bay needed as it closed out its first win of the season
