Kebbi NOA urges Nigerians to remain calm over rising fuel prices
The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Kebbi State Directorate, has urged Nigerians and residents of the state to remain calm amid fluctuations in the retail price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS.
The Director of NOA in Kebbi State, Muhammed Nasir Karofi, made the appeal in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi.
Karofi attributed the fluctuations to changes in international crude oil prices, foreign exchange movements and other market factors under the deregulated downstream petroleum sector.
He said similar price adjustments and inflationary pressures were being experienced in neighbouring West African countries.
Karofi acknowledged the impact of rising petrol prices on households and small businesses but said the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidies was aimed at reducing fiscal pressure and redirecting resources to infrastructure, security, education and social welfare.
He said the Kebbi State Government had introduced measures to cushion the impact of rising costs, including public transport support, healthcare interventions, agricultural assistance and welfare programmes for vulnerable groups.
Karofi urged community leaders, civil society organisations, youth groups and citizens to remain patient and support measures aimed at addressing the economic challenges.
