Kansas State football vs Washington State injury update: Cougars may not have top WR

MANHATTAN — Washington State may be without one of its best players when it takes the field at Bill Snyder Family Stadium this week.

Senior receiver Tony Freeman is trending toward missing the Cougars’ matchup with the Wildcats, Wazzu coach Kirby Moore told reporters on Monday, Sept. 7. He exited the Cougars’ 24-10 loss to Washington on Sunday after playing 11 snaps with a knee injury.

The Cougs will play the Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be televised on TNT.

Freeman was the Cougars’ second-leading receiver last season, catching 54 passes for 590 yards and three touchdowns. He was named to the Pac-12’s preseason impact list going into the 2026 season at both receiver and punt returner.

Kansas State came out of its 71-3 win over Nicholls on Saturday mostly unscathed. Starting linebacker Mekhi Mason exited with an undisclosed injury after playing 14 snaps. Wildcats coach Collin Klein didn’t offer much when asked about it on Monday, but said his outlook is better than initially thought.

Left guard Tanner Morley was expected to be limited against Nicholls and played 14 snaps after an injury during fall camp. Klein said the Wildcats will continue to ease him in, noting that Charlie Adams played well in his start.
