Kano tops 2026 NECO results, ahead of Lagos and Oyo

He disclosed that the state spent more than ₦4.4bn in 2026 to sponsor candidates for the Senior School Certificate Examination, with particular attention to indigent students, to reduce financial barriers to participation.

Yusuf said the government’s education support also covered classroom renovations, the provision of learning materials and uniforms, teacher development and scholarship programmes.

He added that the administration’s objective was to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed for further education, employment, innovation and leadership.

According to the statement, education has consistently received one of the largest shares of Kano’s annual budget under the Yusuf administration.

The state allocated ₦168.35bn to the sector in its 2025 budget, representing 31 per cent of the total allocation.

For 2026, the government earmarked ₦405.35bn for education, accounting for approximately 30 per cent of the state’s ₦1.48tn budget.

Yusuf dedicated the latest examination performance to students, teachers, parents and residents, while pledging to continue programmes aimed at improving learning outcomes across the state.

The governor’s spokesperson also said Kano’s latest annual school census recorded more than five million schoolchildren, highlighting the scale of the state’s responsibility in providing education.
