The Kano State Hisbah Board has warned residents not to pay anyone to be registered for the state’s upcoming mass wedding programme.

The board’s Deputy Commander-General, Dr Mujahideen Aminuddeen, gave the warning on Wednesday following reports that some individuals were collecting money from people hoping to benefit from the programme.

He said the Kano State Government had already paid for the entire exercise. According to him, Governor Abba Yusuf approved funding to cover wedding attire, furniture, transportation of the furniture and start-up capital for beneficiaries.

Aminuddeen stressed that no Hisbah official or government representative had been authorised to collect money from anyone seeking to join the programme.

He urged anyone asked to make a payment to report the matter immediately to the Hisbah Board or security agencies for investigation.

“The governor has paid for everything. Nobody should pay for anything because the entire programme is completely free,” he said.
