The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed operational commanders across the state to remain neutral, professional and non-partisan ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bakori gave the directive on Monday, September 28, 2026, during a strategic lecture on election security management held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bompai, Kano.
A statement signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Kano State Commissioner of Police, said the meeting was attended by area commanders, divisional police officers, heads of tactical and operational units, and other senior officers.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their commitment to preventing and controlling crime, saying their efforts had contributed to the relative peace in the state.
He urged them to remain apolitical and impartial, particularly during the ongoing political campaigns and preparations for the 2027 elections.
According to him, “Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and actors.”
Bakori warned that officers who engage in partisan politics or compromise the electoral process would face disciplinary action.
He also told the commanders to respect human rights and the rule of law while carrying out their duties.
He said “public trust is the cornerstone of effective policing,” urging the officers to strengthen cooperation with communities and make greater use of intelligence-led policing.
The Commissioner of Police further called on police personnel to work selflessly and uphold public confidence in the police.
He avowed that the Kano State Police Command is committed to providing security before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
