Harry Kane understands a trophy is “the missing piece” for England, as they aim to finally get over the line at a major tournament.
It has been 60 years since England won their only major trophy to date, with the Three Lions lifting the World Cup on home soil in 1966.
England reached just two semi-finals between 1966 and 2018 (at the 1990 World Cup and 1996 Euros).
However, after they defeated Norway 2-1 on Saturday, England are now preparing for their second World Cup semi-final in the space of eight years, while they have been runners-up at the last two Euros.
Kane was part of the team that lost to Croatia in the semi-finals eight years ago, and the England captain knows there will be a “missing piece” unless the Three Lions finally get their hands on silverware.
“It’s been an extremely successful era of our national team,” Kane said, as quoted by ESPN.
“Of course, we want to get over the line. That is the missing piece now.
“We’re knocking on the door. We’re getting to these semifinals and finals. It’s a big week. We’ve got eight days left in this tournament.

“We’ve been together six weeks and shown every bit of desire for the badge and we’re going to need an even bigger push now for the last week or so.
“Ultimately, we are in a semi-final of the World Cup and that has not always been the case for this national team, so we have to enjoy it.”
England will take on old rivals Argentina in the last four.
The Three Lions are given a 50.9% chance of reaching the final, while their chances of winning the tournament stand at 21.9%, compared to Argentina’s 20.6%.
That makes the Three Lions third favourites, and Argentina fourth favourites, with Spain second at 23.5% and France the most likely winners at 34.1%.
Not counting penalty shoot-outs, England are unbeaten across their last five internationals against Argentina (W2 D3), winning each of the last two in succession, with the most recent a 3-2 friendly victory in November 2005 thanks to a Michael Owen brace and Wayne Rooney strike.
