The development was disclosed in a post by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, via his X handle.

The rescue operation was conducted at about 4 pm on September 16, 2026, following intelligence on the movement of the kidnappers and their victims.

According to security sources, troops conducted a search operation around Tayu High Grounds, Tayu Village and adjoining areas of Sanga LGA in an effort to locate the abducted mother and child.

During the operation, the troops made contact with the suspected kidnappers, leading to an exchange of fire.

The kidnappers subsequently abandoned one of the victims, identified as two-year-old Jafaru Baba, and fled into the surrounding bush.

The troops recovered the child and later handed him over to his father.

Security sources said the troops expended 17 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition during the encounter.

Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the boy’s mother and apprehend the suspected kidnappers responsible for the abduction.

Security forces have also intensified search operations across the surrounding terrain to track the fleeing suspects.
