JUSUN condemns machete attack on Adamawa Area Court judge

The Adamawa State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has condemned the alleged attack on a presiding Area Court judge in Mayo-Inne, Fufore Local Government Area, Dauda Hamman.

The union, describing the attack as an assault on the nation’s legal system, said the act was “barbaric, inhuman, heinous, unacceptable.”

In a statement signed by its chairman, Fxenty Sanda Jonathan, JUSUN said the judge was attacked by armed men suspected to be involved in a case before him.

Stating that the judge was macheted in the courtroom, JUSUN avowed that “an arbiter of justice performing his constitutional duties as a judge should not be descended upon by armed men and macheted helplessly.”

JUSUN urged the government and relevant authorities to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack and make them face justice.

The union also urged authorities to provide adequate security cover for magistrates and area court judges working in remote parts of the state to prevent a recurrence.

“Judges in rural courts are exposed to high risks due to the nature of cases they handle and the absence of sufficient protection, a situation that must be addressed urgently,” JUSUN stated.

The union, however, appealed to its members across the state to remain calm in the wake of the attack, as both the union and security agencies were working to track down the attackers.
