Judicial reforms aim to improve justice delivery – Taraba Chief Judge

The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, says ongoing judicial reforms under his leadership are aimed at promoting excellence in judicial practice and improving justice delivery across the state.

Agya stated this on Friday during the 2026 Law Week organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Wukari Branch, in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

The theme of the Law Week was: “The Judiciary as a Citadel of Justice: A Myth or a Reality for the Common Man and Legal Practitioners.”

The Chief Judge said that despite challenges such as delays in case disposal, inadequate infrastructure and resource constraints, the judiciary remained committed to strengthening public confidence through reforms, innovation and strict adherence to the highest standards of judicial integrity.

“In Taraba state, we remain committed to improving the administration of justice through the review of procedural rules, the adoption of technology driven processes, continuous judicial education and measures aimed at reducing delays in the disposal of cases,” he said.

Agya disclosed that, as part of the reforms, judges of the Taraba State High Court underwent practical Artificial Intelligence (AI) training in June to enhance efficiency and modernise judicial processes.

“These efforts are geared towards ensuring that justice is not only done but is seen to be done,” he added.

He commended the NBA Wukari Branch for selecting a theme that encourages stakeholders in the justice sector to reflect on the role and effectiveness of the judiciary in contemporary society.

Agya also expressed appreciation to the branch for naming its secretariat after him, describing the gesture as humbling and a source of encouragement to continue striving for excellence in the administration of justice.

Earlier, the chairman of the NBA Wukari Branch, Mr Hassan Saubana, said the Law Week provided an opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of the justice delivery system and strengthen collaboration between the Bench and the Bar.

Saubana assured that the branch would continue to work closely with the Bench and other stakeholders to promote efficient justice delivery in the state.
