Jonathan Taylor's spot in active players mock reflects his value to Colts

A mock draft constructed by Chad Reuter of NFL.com that consisted of only active NFL players highlighted just how valuable and impactful Jonathan Taylor is to the Indianapolis Colts’ offense.

In the first round of this mock, as you can imagine, quarterback after quarterback was taken off the board through the first 15 or so picks. There were also several pass rushers taken in the top 20 as well.

But also among that group of first-round picks was Taylor, who was taken at 22nd overall. He was just the third running back taken in this mock and one of seven non-quarterbacks selected in the first 22 picks.

Taylor is a three-time Pro Bowler and made one All-Pro team. He played in 13 games in 2024 and all 17 games last season, rushing for 1,431 yards and 1,585 yards, respectively, as one of the more productive backs in football each year.

Taylor also continues to shoulder a heavy workload out of the backfield.

It is Taylor who sets the table for the Colts offense. With a strong and steady run game to lean on, that keeps the Colts out of predictable long down-and-distance situations and opens up the playbook for Shane Steichen.

Taylor’s play goes a long way in determining the overall success of the Indianapolis offense, and his spot in Reuter’s mock reflects his importance.
