John Hunter Nemechek won't return to Legacy Motor Club in 2027

John Hunter Nemechek will be looking for a new home in NASCAR. Earlier in the month, Legacy Motor Club announced that Nemechek won’t return to the No. 42 car during the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season. This comes as a surprising development, as the driver of the No. 42 car was fully expected to return for months.

Now, Legacy Motor Club has hired Josh Berry to replace Nemechek. After moving back to the NASCAR Truck Series with Toyota to restart his career, Nemechek could be at a crossroads. Nemechek doesn’t have a ride in the Cup Series for the 2027 campaign.

The Legacy Motor Club driver has struggled compared to his teammate Erik Jones throughout the 2026 NASCAR season. Nemechek sits 26th while Jones is 21st in the points standings. Now, Nemechek will be looking for a new opportunity going into the 2027 NASCAR season.
