LAS VEGAS – Joanderson Brito channeled his inner Derrick Lewis after his UFC Fight Night 278 win Saturday at Meta APEX. But why?

In all honesty, Brito (19-5-1 MMA, 7-3 UFC) himself is still chasing answers.

“It’s honestly pretty hard for me to say why. I was just excited at the moment,” Brito told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. “I wasn’t even supposed to go up on the cage and that happened, too. I was just super motivated, super happy for my win. Overall, I’m just super happy. It’s also my 10th fight in the UFC, so I’m just super happy to be here.”

Brito, 31, submitted submission artist Jordan Leavitt in Round 1 with a slick front choke. The victory made it back-to-back wins. So what’s next? Brito isn’t sure, but he’s willing to step into any short notice opportunity that appears – even if it’s a couple weeks from now.

“Dan Ige is not really on my mind any more,” Brito said. “When I threw the cards at him, I didn’t really get a reply back. I’m just super happy that I’m in the biggest organization in the planet. I’m just ready to plan again. … The fight on June 20th. ‘LokDog’ (Vinicius Oliveira), his opponent seemed like they talked off and Fili took it. I’m already here, so if the UFC wants me there, I’m ready.”
