JJ Redick reveals the staggering number of starting lineups the LA Lakers are preparing next season

The LA Lakers head coach JJ Redick has made a serious admission about the team’s starting lineup for the upcoming NBA season.

Going into his third year as Lakers head coach, Redick has two consecutive playoff appearances to his name.

However, the hope will be to get deeper into the postseason, and to help achieve that, General Manager Rob Pelinka brought in some talented players in free agency.

Led by Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, Redick stated that he knows three of his starters during media availability and revealed there would be a lot of competition for the other two spots during training camp.

He also confirmed that the plan is for the team to have a deeper rotation, and now he has revealed what that means to the starting lineup.

Lakers could have 50 different starting lineups next season

The Lakers did not have a fixed starting lineup even last season, but that was mainly due to the injury problems they faced all of last season.

However, the same trend is expected to follow this season as well, but this time the Lakers are a little more prepared.

“We’re going to start different lineups during the season, like that is the modern NBA,” said Redick during his phone interview with ESPN LA.

“We’ll probably have 50 different starting lineups. We’re looking for consistency and fit around Luka, AR and Walker. We want guys that can make threes, but we want guys that can complement them on the defensive end and can make plays off the dribble…”

The acquisition of Walker Kessler was a big one for the Lakers this offseason. They struggled to find a center who could defend the paint, and with the former Utah Jazz player now on their roster, Redick has a solid rim protector.

They also added the likes of Collin Sexton, Quentin Grimes, and Sandro Mamukelashvili to help the team get back to making deep playoff runs.

Last season, Doncic and Reaves showed they can be a duo who can play well together, but they needed some gritty defenders and good shooters as well, which was the focus all offseason.
